Do I need prior ACT training to take ACT for Adolescents?

No. If you’re a relative newcomer to ACT, it’s wise to do the ACT For Beginners course first, to build your foundational knowledge and develop the core skills.  But it’s not absolutely essential.


Will the course teach me how to engage clients that are reluctant, hesitant or coerced?

Absolutely. Many adolescents are pushed into therapy by parents or teachers, and are understandably reluctant to engage. In ACT for Adolescents, you’ll learn simple, practical strategies to meet them where they are, validate their reluctance, and ‘win them over’ to engaging in therapy.


Does this course include the use of art, music, and play?

Yes, it does. This ACT for Adolescents training will explode your creativity: music, painting, drawing, sculpting, movies, photography, Lego … there are so many playful and engaging ways to do ACT with adolescents. You’ll see interventions involving everything from bubble wrap and paper plates to toilet rolls and jelly snakes!


Will the ACT for Adolescents teach strategies for overcoming self-criticism and developing self-compassion?

It sure will. This course provides you with structured, practical skills and strategies for helping adolescents to overcome self-doubt and self-judgment, and foster self-compassion in its place.

You’ll learn how to defuse from even the harshest self-criticism, and build self-compassion even when clients insist they ‘don’t deserve it.’


Is this training useful for adolescents with depression and anxiety disorders?

Yes, for sure. ACT for Adolescents has engaging, bite-sized modules where you’ll learn a reliable, practical framework for effectively working with depression, anxiety disorders, and other common clinical issues.
