Integrating AIP theory in with attachment theory really shows you how attachment trauma can impact memory networks. Attachment trauma can impact the diagnoses of children. So, it can impact anxiety, depression, ADHD, all kinds of areas that kids are struggling with. There oftentimes is, an attachment piece to it. Attachment experiences impact all of the procedures of EMDR therapy. And, so, we're gonna look at each of those phases, so that you can understand how attachment can influence how you're gathering information and how you're reprocessing that information from an attachment perspective?
Trauma impacts attachment. So, when something awful happens to a child, it detaches them from their sense of themselves, the people around them, and their environment. It's really a profound and significant thing that happens all individuals when something traumatic occurs. The sense of detachment impacts a child's range of emotions, recently acquired developmental skills, and also the sense of a foreshortened future that they can't even see themselves living for very long. Attachment trauma and attachment breaches are at the core of many, many issues for children, and how that presents from an AIP perspective is how is this stored, how is this encoded for the child?
Oftentimes, what the child is presenting, what they wanna work on are usually symptoms or behaviors. Oftentimes, these are regulatory issues like eating or sleeping or potty training. We, as EMDR therapists, have this amazing therapy that can treat the trauma that can really heal those attachment breaches. It's significant and so helpful to be able to do something so powerful and important, when you're working with your child clients.
