How Our AMSR Courses Work

How do your AMSR self-directed courses work?

Self-directed courses are available immediately. You can log in and begin learning at a time that suits you, progressing through course content at your own pace, with 3 - 5 months access to all course content, depending on which AMSR course you are taking.

You'll also have access to a library packed with downloadable resources, and each course contains bonus 'dig deeper' content designed to enrich your learning experience.

Throughout the course you can log into your Psychwire account from anywhere at any time and there's no need to be online at a specific time.

Certificates will be available for download in "My Dashboard" after all content has been completed, and for CE Certificates, if all requirements have been met.

Do I have to be online at a specific time?

You do not have to be online at specific times! You can work through the lessons, readings, and exercises at your own pace during your course. You will have access to the content for 3 - 5 months, depending on the AMSR course you are taking.

How much time should I dedicate to the course?

The course will take 3 - 8 hours to complete, depending on which AMSR course you are taking. We recommend scheduling some time each week to dive into the course and explore the library. You can choose the amount of time per week that fits your schedule. However, with at least 3 months access, there is ample time to complete the course and revise the content you really enjoyed.

Please note, we are unable to provide extensions. We encourage all participants to be mindful of when their course access ends to ensure they have ample of time to complete the course. You can find out when your course access finishes in "My Dashboard".

Why should I take the AMSR training?

Health care providers face many challenges when working with patients at risk of suicide. Some patients may not disclose their thoughts of suicide, and if they do, often the health care provider must make judgment calls about unpredictable outcomes, often with insufficient or contradictory information.

Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) is based on the latest research and is designed to support safer suicide care practices, such as Zero Suicide.  AMSR teaches a prevention-oriented risk formulation focused on planning not predicting.

Which AMSR training is right for me?

AMSR Outpatient Settings and AMSR for Inpatient Settings online courses are appropriate for clinical professionals who conduct suicide risk assessments with patients, including counselors, social workers, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and nurses.

We offer two companion versions, AMSR for Direct Care Staff in Inpatient Settings and AMSR for Direct Care Staff in Outpatient Settings. These trainings are for other staff on the care team who need to understand the risk formulation and treatment plan but do not do the risk assessment. This includes case managers, care navigators, mental health technicians, recovery coaches, peer specialists, and LPNs.
