About Zero Suicide Institute®

Our targeted initiatives promote multifaceted, safer suicide care.

Envision a future where healthcare systematically attends to suicide prevention: patients are routinely screened, protocols for care that directly target suicidal thoughts and behaviors are established, and evidence-based practices are applied consistently. The science of how to address suicide risk directly continues to improve. Every day, continuous quality improvement models for system-wide suicide prevention paired with innovative training practices save lives.

Zero Suicide Institute at EDC was created to ensure these promising practices are accessible to all and implemented with care. Zero Suicide Institute brings together professionals and partners with organizations with a passion and a drive to champion safer suicide care across the United States and around the globe. Together, we advance Zero Suicide, the preeminent framework for transforming system-wide suicide care practices, and Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR), an empathy- and evidence-based clinical training model.

What we offer

Zero Suicide Institute offers trainings in Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk (AMSR) to help healthcare, mental health, and allied professionals effectively manage and assess suicide risk in clients across settings—from outpatient to inpatient and in substance use disorder care. Participants who complete AMSR training report an increased confidence and competence in their ability to identify the level of risk for their clients and respond with appropriate care. AMSR is a practical assessment tool that is easy to learn and implement straightaway in healthcare facilities, systems, and clinics.

How the AMSR online courses work

The online course versions of our AMSR curricula are presented through engaging videos featuring leading experts and experienced trainers who have lived and clinical experience in the field. Participants are guided through resources, exercises, and assignments designed to impart a deep understanding of the curriculum. Through the course forum, AMSR Master trainers will be available to support participants every step of the way.
