Repeated Patterns of Attachment Dramas

Past attachments shape how we view ourselves and others and shape future relationships.

Sue JohnsonEFT: Attachment Science in Practice
Repeated patterns in the attachment drama set up mental models, mental models of self and other. These models are hot. They're saturated with emotion. And what it really looks like is that as you connect with the people around you that you love and you depend on, you create expectations, biases, ways of seeing things, you experience emotional triggers that you pay attention to. And all these mental models of self and other they reflect the past, your past experience, but they also end up shaping your future. For example, If your mental models of other people are that they're absolutely not safe and not to be depended on, then you tend to not trust people and you don't open up to people. And if what I'm saying is really extreme, you don't open up to people and you never find actually some people are safe. So these mental models are important in terms of shaping who we are and how we see others.
