EMDR for Attachment Injuries FAQs

How does the EMDR for Attachment Injuries course work?

This six-week course is delivered online and is designed to help you learn how to work effectively with attachment injuries using EMDR. New content is released each week and is self-paced, allowing you to learn at your own pace and fit the training around your schedule. There’s no set time to be online!

Throughout the course, you'll learn how to identify and reprocess developmental and attachment-related memories, address present-day relational triggers, strengthen clients' capacity for safety and connection, and support healing within family systems. You'll also gain practical strategies for involving parents and caregivers in the EMDR process.

Your learning experience includes:

  • Video lessons led by Debra Wesselmann and a distinguished faculty of EMDR experts

  • Therapy demonstrations and case examples showing attachment-focused EMDR in practice

  • Rare archival footage of Francine Shapiro

  • An interactive discussion forum where you can ask questions and receive guidance from Debra Wesselmann

  • Bonus materials and a digital library of downloadable tools and resources to keep

You'll have 12 months of access to all course materials, giving you plenty of time to revisit key concepts, rewatch demonstrations, and continue building your confidence and skills long after the course has ended.

Who can enroll in EMDR for Attachment Injuries?

This advanced training is for therapists who have already completed EMDR basic training and want to deepen their skills in working with attachment and developmental trauma. It builds on your existing EMDR knowledge and shows you how to apply the full EMDR framework to complex relational and developmental cases.

You’ll also gain practical tools for working with children and families, including strategies to involve parents in the EMDR process and support healing across generations. This advanced-level training builds on the foundation of EMDR basic training.

If you’re new to EMDR, we recommend completing accredited basic training with The EMDR Institute.

How is this training different from other EMDR courses focused on attachment?

This course shows you how to use the full EMDR framework to address attachment injuries and developmental trauma. Rather than presenting attachment concepts as an add-on, Debra Wesselmann shows how to integrate them throughout every stage of EMDR therapy—from case conceptualization to reprocessing and repair.

You’ll learn to recognize and work with dismissive, preoccupied, and disorganized patterns in session, using attachment-informed strategies that strengthen clients’ capacity for safety, connection, and emotional growth.

Can I ask Debra Wesselman questions during this course?

Yes. The course includes an interactive forum where you can post questions and receive direct responses from course presenter Debra Wesselmann, along with discussions with peers from around the world.

Why should EMDR therapists learn about attachment injuries?

This training helps you extend your EMDR skills into one of the most challenging and rewarding areas of practice: developmental and attachment trauma. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of how early attachment experiences shape emotion regulation, self-worth, and relationships, and how EMDR can be used to support new patterns of safety, connection, and emotional regulation.

The blend of theory, demonstrations, and practical tools supports both professional confidence and clinical effectiveness in complex cases.
