Professor Allan Horwitz is a board of governors and distinguished professor emeritus at Rutgers University. He is an expert in the sociology of mental health and illness. Professor Horwitz has published over 140 articles and authored numerous books including DSM: A History of Psychiatry’s Bible, Creating Mental Illness and Anxiety: A Short History. An accomplished scholar, Professor Horwitz has investigated various aspects of mental health and illness, including family caretaking, social status and the medicalization of sadness.
