Dr Sara Schmidt is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Washington, where she is in private practice. Until 2021, she was the Associate Director of the Trauma and Suicide Treatment Research Lab at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System, where she collaborated with Dr Melanie Harned as a Co-Investigator on NIMH-funded research focused on the evaluation and implementation of DBT and the DBT Prolonged Exposure protocol for PTSD.
Previously, Dr Schmidt was also a Research Scientist at Behavioral Tech, LLC, where she assisted in developing training content, methods, and customized implementation plans. She is the former director of the graduate training program in DBT at the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinics (BRTC) at the University of Washington, and currently maintains a Clinical Instructor position there supervising advanced doctoral students.
Dr Schmidt completed her pre-doctoral internship at Westchester Jewish Community Services in Hartsdale, NY. She has experience providing DBT in a variety of settings, including community mental health, private practice, and residential facilities, and works with both adults and adolescents. She is a Certified DBT Clinician by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification.
