Dr. Stephen Langer is a clinical psychologist and internationally recognised expert in Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), with more than four decades of clinical experience. His involvement with SFBT dates back to its early development, including training and teaching alongside founders Steve de Shazer and Insoo Kim Berg at the Brief Family Therapy Center in Milwaukee. A former President of the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Association and recipient of the Insoo Kim Berg Memorial Award, he has also contributed to the development of the SFBTA’s official Solution Focused Therapy Treatment Manual. Since 1994, he has served as Director of the Northwest Brief Therapy Training Center.
Dr. Langer has spent decades applying and teaching solution-focused approaches across clinical, organisational, crisis-response, and trauma settings. His international work has included training professionals supporting refugees and communities affected by war and displacement. He has published on solution-focused practice and trauma treatment and served as an editorial consultant for Solution-Focused Brief Therapy: A Handbook of Evidence-Based Practice. He continues to train clinicians internationally in the practical application of SFBT.
