Joseph E. LeDoux is known for his psychological and neuroscientific research on memory and emotion, with particular emphasis on fear and anxiety.

He is the Henry and Lucy Moses Professor of Science at NYU in the Center for Neural Science and Department of Psychology at NYU, and Professor of Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at NYU Langone Medical School. He is also Director of the Emotional Brain Institute of NYU and the Nathan Kline Institute.

Professor LeDoux’s work focuses on the neurobiology of emotion, how the brain processes fear, the role survival circuits, and much more. His books include The Deep History of Ourselves, The Emotional Brain, and Anxious.

He is the recipient of a number of major awards, including the William James Fellow Award from the Association for Psychological Science and the Karl Spencer Lashley Award from the American Philosophical Society, and is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences in the United States. He is also published widely in academic journals.

Professor LeDoux has also contributed to the New York Times and Huffington Post and appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. He is also an active musician with his band, The Amygdalaoids.
