Observing and Containing Awareness

Free Compassion Focused Therapy Mindful Exercise

A mindfulness-based exercise to help steady the mind and regulate emotion. This Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) practice guides listeners through developing an awareness that can observe, hold, and contain difficult feelings and thoughts with balance and care.

The exercise supports grounding, emotional regulation, and perspective-taking, key elements of compassion-based work that complement Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness approaches.

Use this resource to:

  • Support mindfulness and emotion regulation in therapy

  • Help clients observe and contain difficult experiences safely

  • Integrate CFT principles into CBT or mindfulness-based practice.
