I've thoroughly enjoyed the course and have gained so much from the ACT approach and Dr Harris's Teaching. I am already integrating my learning into my practice and feel that my therapy sessions have improved as a consequence. I loved so much about the ACT model: it's client-centred ethos; it's use of simple language to explain concepts like defusion, mindfulness, and acceptance; the use of metaphors; the use of choice point as a formulation tool; the ACT model's non-pathologising stance and emphasis on building a richer life rather than simply removing distress; the teaching of mindfulness without meditation; the ability to target the various aspects of mindfulness practice to the client's specific problems; as well as the learning around compassion, which I had previously always loved as a therapy concept but found difficult in practice. It has also helped me to revisit and hone some of my basic skills, such as informed consent, setting and reviewing homework, and obtaining overarching therapy goals. I have been totally enthused by the whole training and I already have several colleagues looking into completing the course in the near future. I hope to consolidate my learning and complete the ACT course for trauma in the near future. I am also applying the learning to my own life and will never look back. Thanks Russ.
