Dr René Mõttus is a highly regarded personality psychologist and a Reader in Psychology at the University of Edinburgh. His main area of expertise is the broad field of human personality, including its measurement and development. Dr Mõttus’ research has also covered intelligence, health, aging and genetics. He is also an authority on the impact of society and culture on personality.

Dr Mõttus has published his research widely and has served in editorial capacities with a number of influential journals, including Journal of Personality and European Journal of Personality. He is starting as the Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Personality.

Dr Mõttus has been consulted as an expert by mainstream media on numerous occasions, including recently by the BBC regarding how personality changes as we age. He received the Early Achievement Award from the European Association of Personality Psychology in 2018.
