Dr Arthur W. Blume is a highly respected Professor of Psychology at Washington State University in Vancouver. He is also President’s Professor at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Center for Alaska Native Health Research. Dr Blume is an expert in racial and ethnic psychology and addiction.

An American Indian scholar, Dr Blume has conducted extensive research into culturally appropriate interventions for addictive behaviors including alcohol and substance abuse in ethnic minorities including American Indians and Alaska Natives. Other areas of interest include the impact of prejudice and discrimination, university culture, military personnel and incarcerated populations.

Dr Blume has written several books and over 100 articles and chapters. He has also worked as the Associate Editor on journals and been honored with the Joseph E. Trimble and Jewell E. Horvat Award for Distinguished Contributions to Native and Indigenous Psychology. In 2020, Dr Blume was President of Division 45 of the American Psychological Association – Society for the Psychological Study of Culture, Ethnicity and Race. He is also the former President of the Society of Indian Psychologists.
