Dr Rania Awaad is a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine and director of the Stanford Muslim Mental Health and Islamic Psychology Lab. Her research is focused on mental healthcare in Muslim communities and the history of mental health and wellbeing in Islam. At Stanford, she teaches a groundbreaking course on Islamic Psychology exploring the relationship between culture, religion and medical care. Dr Awaad was the first female professor of Islamic Law at Zaytuna College in Berkeley, California.
