profile

Dr Skye McDonald is Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of New South Wales. She is an internationally respected authority on acquired brain damage in adults, neuropsychology, language disorders, memory, perception, and traumatic brain injury.

Before moving into academia, she worked for over ten years as a clinician, treating patients with acquired brain disorders.

Dr McDonald has authored hundreds of peer-reviewed publications on the subject of brain injury. She has also produced programs addressing impairment in social cognition, reflecting one of her core research interests: the breakdown in social cognition (our ability to read social signals and the meanings behind them) following significant brain injury. Dr McDonald is devoted to developing new ways of assessing and treating these disorders.

Demonstrating her commitment to putting her research into practice, McDonald is the director of the Moving Ahead Centre of Research Excellence in Brain Recovery, established in 2012. She is also the President-Elect of the International Neuropsychological Society (2019-21).
