Professor Rory O’Connor is a highly regarded figure in psychology, best known for his research into suicidality, self-harm, and approaches and theory around their prevention. He is a Professor of Health Psychology at the University of Glasgow, where he is also Director of the Suicidal Behaviour Research Laboratory and Mental Health and Wellbeing Group Leader.

Professor O’Connor is interested in applying ideas from different fields of clinical, cognitive and social psychology as well as the broader biomedical and social sciences. He studies the potential of self-regulatory models for a range of physical and mental health problems.

Professor O’Connor is a Vice-President of the International Association for Suicide Prevention and a Past President of the International Academy for Suicide Research. He serves in an editorial capacity for several leading scientific journals, including Archives of Suicide Research, Suicide and Life-Threatening Behavior, and Behavior Therapy. He is a co-editor of the book International Handbook of Suicide Prevention.
