Dr Eric Madfis is an associate professor in the School of Social Work & Criminal Justice at the University of Washington Tacoma. His research broadly focuses on critical criminological theory, violence, inequality, deviance, and social control.

Dr Madfis’ expertise on the topics of school violence, hate crime, mass shootings, masculinity, and the school-to-prison pipeline is highly sought after. He has presented his findings to a Congressional Briefing on School Safety and Violence Prevention and the Washington State Legislature. The latter informed legislation to implement non-biased threat assessment procedures in public schools across Washington State.

The author of many academic papers and two books on the subject of school violence, Dr Madfis’ work has also been featured numerous times in mainstream media outlets such as CNN and The New York Times.
