Dr Dorothy L. Espelage is a highly influential psychologist specializing in bullying, teen aggression, teen dating violence, homophobic teasing, sexual harassment and gang violence.
She is William C. Friday Distinguished Professor of Education at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill), and a former Professor of Psychology at the University of Florida.
Dr Espelage is the author of several notable books, including Bullying in North American Schools; Bullying Prevention and Intervention: Realistic Strategies for Schools; and Handbook of Bullying in Schools: An International Perspective. She has also been a consultant for various national anti-bullying campaigns, such as that initiated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
A regular commentator in the media, Dr Espelage has appeared on CNN, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Anderson Cooper 360, and in publications USA Today and Huffington Post. In 2011, she was invited to the White House as part of the Bullying Summit to discuss policy regarding aggression in schools. She has also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in Prevention Science from the American Psychological Association.
