Dr Catherine A. Sanderson is the Poler Family Professor and Chair of Psychology at Amherst College. She is a global authority on social-personality psychology with expertise on issues within social influence, close relationships, and health-related behavior. Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Health.

Dr Sanderson has over 25 published journal articles and book chapters as well as influential books such as The Bystander Effect: The Psychology of Courage and Inaction and The Positive Shift: Mastering Mindset to Improve Happiness, Health, and Longevity. She is a highly sought-after public speaker and has been featured in The Washington Post, USA Today, CNN, The Boston Globe, and many other mainstream publications.

Among her awards and honors, Dr Sanderson was named one of the country’s top 300 professors by the Princeton Review. Her blog for Psychology Today, Norms Matter, examines the power of social influence on our lives.
