Dr George S. Everly, Jr. is a highly acclaimed psychologist, author and researcher who specializes in crisis intervention and human resilience.

Dr Everly currently holds appointments as Professor in the Center for Humanitarian Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health (adjunct) and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine (part time). He was formerly Professor of Psychology at Loyola University Maryland.  

Dr Everly’s main areas of expertise are crisis intervention, human resilience and psychological first aid. He has co-authored more than 20 textbooks including A Clinical Guide to the Treatment of the Human Stress Response, Stronger and The Johns Hopkins Guide to Psychological First Aid. He has also worked as a senior consultant for the US government.

He is also responsible, with Dr Jeffrey T. Mitchell, for founding the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) in the late 1980s. The ICISF was admitted to the United Nations as a non-governmental organization in 1997.

Dr Everly has won many awards for his work and received honorary professorships from the University of Hong Kong, Universidad de Flores (Argentina) and Universidad Norbert Weiner (Peru).
