Professor David Haaga is Professor of Psychology at American University. After completing his PhD, he undertook postdoctoral research and clinical training under the supervision of Aaron T. Beck.

His overall focus, on the role of cognitive factors in the development and maintenance of psychological conditions, has seen him develop expertise across diagnostic categories, including depression, smoking cessation and trichotillomania (hair-pulling).

Professor Haaga is a Fellow of the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies as well as the Association for Psychological Science.

In recognition of his work in trichotillomania, he was elected to the Science Advisory Board of the TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors.

David Haaga is a prolific author, publishing over 130 scientific papers, many of them highly cited.

Professor Haaga also reviews applications for funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

He has served on editorial boards of a dozen journals, including the editor role at Behavior Therapy.

Professor Haaga combines his academic rigor with excellent teaching and mentoring, recognized through being awarded Scholar/Teacher of the Year.
