Dr Nicholas Salsman is a Professor in the School of Psychology and Director of the Psychological Services Center at Xavier University. He is a well-known psychologist, researcher, and educator. His chief area of expertise is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) for a range of conditions.
Dr Salsman is particularly interested in using DBT to address complex grieving among older adults. He is also an authority on Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and suicidal behavior.
Dr Salsman has delivered workshops, talks and presentations both nationally and internationally. He has trained clinicians at various facilities. Between 2005 and 2007, he worked closely with Dr Marsha Linehan, the creator of DBT, at the Behavioral Research and Therapy Clinic (BRTC) at the University of Washington.
Dr Salsman's research is published in many peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Clinical Case Studies, Journal of Psychopathology and Behavioral Assessment and Personality Disorders: Theory, Research, and Treatment. He has received several awards for his work throughout his career, including being awarded fellow status from the American Psychological Association.
