Dr Myrna Weissman is a highly esteemed Professor of Epidemiology and Psychiatry at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University in New York. She is also Chief of the Division of Translational Epidemiology at New York State Psychiatric Institute.
Dr Weissman is world-renowned for co-developing Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), a brief, therapeutic model centered on interpersonal relationships. An expert in generational depression and anxiety, she has conducted extensive research and clinical trials in this field. One of her latest studies looks at three generations at high and low risk for depression.
Amongst her many distinguished posts, Dr Weissman has been a consultant to the World Health Organization and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. She was also a Professor of Psychiatry and Epidemiology at Yale University School of Medicine and Director of the Depression Research Unit.
A member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr Weissman has published over 600 articles and chapters and more than a dozen books, including her latest title, The Guide to Interpersonal Psychotherapy: Updated and Expanded Edition.
