Dr Ann F. Garland is a Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Counseling & Marital and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego (USD). She has expertise in pediatric and family mental health care.

Dr Garland completed her PhD in Clinical & Community Psychology at Yale University in 1994. Since this achievement, she has dedicated several decades to closing the gap between academia and community engagement. Her copious contributions to the field have helped reduce cultural inequities, improve access to care and enhance clinical assessment.

Dr Garland’s research efforts have garnered over ten million dollars in support from a host of community stakeholders. She has published over 100 academic papers.

Dr Garland mobilizes her scholarly insights through clinical supervision and teaching. She has been an Adjunct Professor at San Diego State University (SDSU) for 25 years and Professor Emeritus at the University of California (UCSD) since 2013. In the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program, she has been a Dissertation Chair and Guidance Committee Member.

Dr Garland is a recipient of the Valiant Knight Award for her essential contributions to service improvements and children’s quality of life. In 2015, she won the Faculty Teaching Award with the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at USD. She has also received honors for Excellence in Teaching and Research Mentoring from the UCSD Clinical Psychology Internship Program and the Department of Psychiatry.

Dr Garland has spoken widely across the US, Canada and Scotland, with invited presentations at ABCT, APS, and APA conferences.
