Dr Melissa A. Brotman is Chief of the Neuroscience and Novel Therapeutics Unit in the Emotion and Development Branch at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Research Program. She is a world-leading expert in developing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) treatments for children with severe and impairing irritability and anger.

In her latest research, Dr Brotman is examining the brain-bases of irritability to develop treatments for severe irritability in children and adolescents.

Dr Brotman has received numerous research awards, including the NIH Earl Stadtman Investigator Award, NIMH Director's Award for Scientific Contributions and NIMH IRP Seymour S. Kety Memorial Training Award. Dr Brotman is highly respected for her dedication to the field. She has also been awarded two NIH Bench-to-Bedside grants and is a member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology.

Dr Brotman is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Affective Disorders and PLOS ONE. She is also the former Chair of the ACNP Membership Advisory Task Force and a Member of the ACNP Program Committee.
