Professor Christopher G. Fairburn OBE is one of the world’s pre-eminent experts on eating disorders. He is Co-Director of the Centre for Research on Eating Disorders at Oxford (CREDO) and Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford.

A leading psychiatrist and researcher for more than four decades, Professor Fairburn, is best known for developing three treatments for eating disorders adopted worldwide. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for bulimia nervosa, self-help and guided self-help treatment for binge eating and Enhanced Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT-E).

Most recently, Professor Fairburn has been working on the online delivery of psychological treatments for common mental disorders, including depression and anxiety, to increase accessibility to treatment globally. He has written over 300 articles and is closely involved with Harvard’s EMPOWER initiative to grow the world’s mental health workforce.

Professor Fairburn was awarded the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for Services to Psychological Treatments and the Treatment of Eating Disorders among his long list of accomplishments.
