Professor Andrew Thompson is a preeminent psychologist whose research focuses on adjustment to conditions that affect appearance with a specific interest in skin conditions. He is the Programme Director and a Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of Cardiff, where he recently joined the South Wales NHS Doctoral Clinical Psychology Training Programme.

Professor Thompson has co-authored two influential books, CBT for Appearance Anxiety: Psychosocial Interventions for Anxiety due to Visible Difference and Qualitative Research Methods in Mental Health and Psychotherapy: A Guide for Students and Practitioners.

Professor Thompson is the Associate Editor for The British Journal of Dermatology and The New Sage Journal, Scars, Burns, & Healing. His research is widely published in peer-reviewed journals such as Qualitative Research in Psychology and Clinical Psychology Review.

Professor Thompson is dually registered as a clinical and health psychologist. He has recently been the lead psychological advisor for the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on Skin mental health report and is a Trustee for the UK's leading visible difference charity Changing Faces.
