Professor Bethany Teachman is a leading researcher, educator, and author specializing in anxiety disorders and their treatment. She is particularly interested in how biases in cognitive processes contribute to the development of psychopathology, such as anxiety.
Professor Teachman is Professor of Psychology, Director of Clinical Training and Co-Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the University of Virginia. She is also Director of the Program for Anxiety, Cognition, and Treatment (PACT) Lab at the University of Virginia, which conducts innovative and essential research into cognitive bias and psychopathology.
Professor Teachman has won numerous awards across her career, including the American Psychological Association Distinguished Scientific Award for Early Career Contribution to Psychology and several national mentoring awards. She is a past president of the Society for a Science of Clinical Psychology.
Professor Teachman is the co-author of the books Treatment Planning in Psychotherapy, Introduction to Clinical Psychology and Helping Your Child Overcome an Eating Disorder. She is also the author of approximately 200 articles or book chapters.
