Dr Teresa Deshields is Director of Supportive Oncology at Rush University Medical School, and an expert in the psychology of cancer patients, survivors and support people. As Past President of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, she is a leader in this field.

Dr Deshields works with patients from diagnosis to treatment, survivorship, death and grief. She has expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) interventions for those coping with cancer.

As Past President and Fellow of the American Psychosocial Oncology Society, she is key in the quest to advance the science and practice of psychosocial oncology, bringing together hundreds of professionals working within all of the psychological, behavioral and social elements of cancer.

She regularly publishes scientific papers on topics such as distress screening and management, implementation of guidelines, communication between patients and healthcare providers, resilience for patients and caregivers, and how cancer patients perceive their symptoms.
