Dr Tracy Westerman is a ground-breaking Australian psychologist who has led the way on a global scale when it comes to Aboriginal mental health, cultural competency and suicide prevention. She is Managing Director of Indigenous Psychological Services an organization established in 1998 to address the escalating rates of Indigenous mental health in the absence of Government funding. A proud Nyamal woman, from the Pilbara region in Western Australia, she was named Australian of the Year for Western Australia in 2018.

Dr Westerman has spent more than two decades striving to improve mental health treatment and suicide prevention in Aboriginal communities across Australia. Her research, including the development of several psychometric tests, enable screening of Indigenous people for suicide and mental health risk and have had an impact across the world.

Dr Westerman is a sought after keynote speaker who has addressed conferences across Australia and the world. She has trained 30,000+ practitioners in Australia, helping mental health professionals attain minimum standards of cultural competency and learn how to best provide mental health services to Aboriginal clients.

Along with the Australian of the Year honor, Dr Westerman was Inducted into the WA Women’s Hall of Fame; recipient of the Curtin University Lifetime Achievement Award and was a winner at the Telstra Women’s Business Awards in 2020.
