Dr Shannon Sauer-Zavala is a researcher and clinical psychologist of wide renown. She has devoted much of her highly accomplished career to exploring the mechanisms of emotion within us that lead to and maintain psychological symptoms, including anxiety and depression, as well as suicidal thoughts and behaviors.

Dr Sauer-Zavala is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Kentucky. She is also the founding Director of the University of Kentucky's Center for Emotional Health.

She is the co-author of the book The Unified Protocol for the Transdiagnostic Treatment of Emotional Disorders (available as a workbook and therapist guide), and a new book on neuroticism is forthcoming. She also has more than 75 publications in peer-reviewed academic journals.

Dr Sauer-Zavala’s research has been supported by a number of significant organizations, such as the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), the Templeton Foundation, the Center for Implementation and Improvement Sciences, and the Canadian Institute of Health Research.
