Kathy Steele is a highly accomplished, and immensely experienced, psychotherapist, author and researcher. Her chief areas of expertise include trauma, dissociative disorders, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), among other things.
Steele has worked in private practice since the mid-1980s, and with Metropolitan Psychotherapy Associates in Atlanta, Georgia, since 1988. Up until 2016, she was the Clinical Director of Metropolitan Counseling Services in the same city.
A committed and passionate researcher, Steele has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters and journal articles, as well as three books. She serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation.
Steele is a past president and fellow of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD). She has also served two terms on the Board of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS).
Steele has received several awards for her work, including the Lifetime Achievement Award from ISSTD, a Distinguished Alumni Award from Emory University, and the Cornelia B. Wilbur Award for Outstanding Clinical Contributions from ISSTD.
