profile

Professor Sarah E Hill is a research psychologist and Director of the Hill Lab at the Texas Christian University.

Professor Hill's research builds on knowledge from the evolutionary sciences to address questions relating to human health and social behavior. Her team is highly interdisciplinary and includes neuroscience, biology, endocrinology and psychoneuoimmonology.

Some of her lab’s current investigations are around how disgust interacts with our immune system, how poverty impacts weight gain and how immune function affects decision-making.

One major focus has led to the publication of a book for mainstream readers. _This Is Your Brain on Birth Control _(also published as How the Pill Changes Everything) explores the neurocognitive impacts of the birth control pill, which she argues can be positive and negative for individual women and society as a whole.

Professor Hill’s book and other research have been the subject of substantial media coverage, including in The Guardian, New York Times and Scientific American.

In addition to her writing, teaching and research, Professor Hill has contributed to journal editorial review boards, including Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Evolution and Human Behavior, and Adaptive Human Behavior and Physiology.
