Dr James Danckert is a cognitive neuroscientist and Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Waterloo, Ontario. His research focuses on the psychology and neuroscience of boredom, as well as the nature of attention and the consequences of stroke.

Dr Danckert’s interest in boredom stems from working with people who have suffered traumatic brain injuries, who reported experiencing more boredom after their injury than before.

With Dr John D. Eastwood, Dr Danckert co-authored the book Out of My Skull: The Psychology of Boredom. His academic writing has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as NeuroReport, Brain and Cognition, Neuropsychology, Psychological Medicine and many others.

Dr Danckert and his research have been covered by The New York Times, CBC, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post and others. His work receives funding from the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF).
