Dr Krystal M. Lewis is a highly respected Clinical Psychologist at the National Institute of Mental Health’s Section on Development and Affective Neuroscience. She was a former Adjunct Professor at the Catholic University of America and is an expert in the prevention and treatment of anxiety and other disorders in young people.
Dr Lewis specializes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), utilizing exposure for anxiety symptoms. She also integrates techniques from Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), when appropriate. Dr Lewis has an interest in identifying the underlying mechanisms of CBT, and her research focuses on general self-efficacy and efficacy for exposures.
Dr Lewis works with children, adolescents and young adults with anxiety, depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), trauma, disruptive behaviors, general adjustment difficulties and related health issues. She has worked extensively in school settings to develop mental health programs to improve wellbeing, academic performance and school culture.
Dr Lewis has written numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, participates in media interviews, and is a regular national presenter at conferences and education institutes. She is a Board Member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), co-chair of the Child and Adolescent Anxiety Special Interest Group of ADAA, and a member of the Stigma Scientific Interest Group and Anti-Racism Task Force at the National Institutes of Health.
