Dr Edward P Riley is both a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Psychology and Emeritus Director of the Center for Behavioral Teratology at San Diego State University.

After dedicating nearly fifty years of a highly productive research career to understanding and improving outcomes for children and adults affected by prenatal exposure to alcohol, Dr Riley is rightly considered an expert in the field. His work has been funded since 1978 by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).

Dr Riley is a principal investigator on the large multi-site and multidisciplinary project called the Collaborative Initiative on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (CIFASD). This initiative aims to accelerate both basic science understanding and clinical care outcomes of FASD.

Dr Riley’s hundreds of research papers are widely cited, particularly his overviews on the subject. Key past roles include President of the Research Society on Alcoholism Society and Chair of a US Secretary of Health national taskforce on FASD.
