Professor Donatella Marazziti is known all over the world for her groundbreaking work in neurobiology. She was the first scientist to demonstrate a link between the early phase of romantic love and the serotonin system. Professor Marazziti also demonstrated how the experience of being in love could be similar to Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Professor Marazziti is a Professor of Psychiatry in the Dipartimento di Medicina Clinica e Sperimentale, a Section of Psychiatry at the University of Pisa. She is the author of several hundred academic papers, book chapters and eight monographs.

Professor Marazziti has edited or authored several books, including Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: A Practical Guide, Evil, Terrorism and Psychiatry and La Natura Dell'amore.

Professor Marazziti has been named among the top 10 most influential Italian psychiatrists and the best 100,000 scientists. She is Scientific Director of the Brain Research Foundation Onlus, Lucca. Her research has been featured by media outlets such as The Guardian, Vox, the BBC, New Scientist, NPR and The Daily Mail.
