Professor Jamila Bookwala is a Professor of Psychology at Lafayette College, where she is also Dean of the Faculty. She is well known for her research into stress, particularly in middle and late adulthood. Her work focuses on the impact of psychosocial factors, such as social relationships and psychological resources, on stress and well-being, as well as gender differences in relation to stress.

The depth of Professor Bookwala’s expert knowledge also extends to spousal illness or loss, family caregiving, disability, functional impairment and pain, stigma and discrimination and interpersonal exchanges.

Professor Bookwala is the author of the book, Couple Relationships in the Middle and Later Years. She has won numerous awards for her work, including The Daniel H. Weiss Award for Leadership and Vision from Lafayette College. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (APA), and Chair of the Women and Aging Sub-committee of APA Division 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women).
