Known as "The Mother of Mindfulness," Ellen Langer has been at the forefront of research into mindfulness and its benefits since the early 1970s. She is Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, where she became the first woman to receive tenure in Psychology in 1981. She is the founder of The Langer Mindfulness Institute which investigates mindful leadership, innovation, mindful strategy processes, and work/life integration.
Dr Langer is the author of 11 books for both an academic and general readership, including Mindfulness (1989) and The Power of Mindful Learning (1997) and Counter Clockwise (2009). She also edited the influential anthology, _The Wiley Blackwell Handbook of Mindfulness _(2014). She has written hundreds of academic articles on the subject of mindfulness, with her particular areas of expertise being the illusion of control, mindful aging, stress, decision-making, and health.
Dr Langer is also an exhibiting artist, and takes a passionate interest in the intersection between mindfulness and creativity, as outlined in her book On Becoming an Artist (2005).
