Professor Rae Silver is a Professor of Psychology at Columbia University in both the Department of Psychology and the Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She is the Principal Investigator at The Silver Lab at Barnard College, where she has been appointed the Helene L. and Mark N. Kaplan Professor of Natural and Physical Sciences Program and also Chair of the Neuroscience Department.
The mechanisms of the mammalian hypothalamus and its regulation of circadian rhythms is the current focus of Professor Silver’s research. She has over 270 authoritative publications in journals such as Nature, the Journal of Neuroscience, Trends in Neuroscience and Psychological Science.
Professor Silver has taught courses in Quantitative Reasoning, Neuroscience and Psychology. She was co-guest editor of the European Journal of Neuroscience Special Issue on Circadian Rhythms, which draws together research from leading scientists in the field to present the significance of circadian rhythms in neuroscience.
Among her many accolades, Professor Silver has been awarded the Director's Award for Mentoring from the Society for Research on Biological Rhythms, the Presidential Teaching Award for exceptional contributions to undergraduate education at Columbia University and Daniel S. Lehrman Lifetime Achievement Award in Behavioral Neuroendocrinology.
