How much time should I be spending on the course?

ACT for Beginners, Trauma-Focused ACT, ACT for Adolescents, ACT for Depression and Anxiety, ACT for Perfectionism and People Pleasing, and ACT as a Brief Intervention are online courses that each run for six weeks. ACT for Grief and Loss and ACT for ADHD runs for four weeks. Plan on spending about two - three hours per week on the course. We encourage you to schedule a specific time in the week to dive into content.

How is this course structured?

Course content is released weekly. You can review previous weeks’ content at any time during the course, but you’ll have to wait for each week to be released before you can access it. Each week’s content includes a variety of engaging learning experiences, including video, audio, and written material. You can immerse yourself in one sitting or tackle the content gradually throughout the week. At the end of each week’s content is a quiz, mostly multiple-choice and true/false questions. To obtain CE/CME credit, you must finish the course with 80% correct overall.

What will I have access to during a course?

You’ll have access to course content as its released - engaging videos, experiential exercises and a library packed with enriching resources and articles. All written content, including PDFs and some audio content, is available for download. Please note that video content is only accessible during your course. You’ll also have exclusive access to the forum during your course. It’s an incredible opportunity to engage with Russ Harris and other students. We encourage you to ask questions and post feedback for an immersive learning experience. After all 6 weeks of the course content has been released, you will have an additional 4 weeks of forum access and a further 12 weeks of access to all materials (22 weeks in total). For ACT for Grief and Loss, and ACT for ADHD after all the 4 weeks of the course content has been released, you will have an additional 6 weeks of forum access and a further 12 weeks of access to all materials (22 weeks in total). You’ll have access to your course and read-only access to the forum in this time. Complete any unfinished work or go back and review the content again. It may give you a chance to dive deeper into the bonus content - it’s up to you.

Who are the courses suitable for?

All ACT courses are designed for mental health professionals, those who are licensed, interning or studying in the field, both undergraduate and postgraduate. This can include but is not limited to counselors, coaches, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, GPs, OTs, social and youth workers. ACT for Beginners is an introductory course and suitable for those with beginner-level knowledge. It’s also a great refresher course for intermediate-level practitioners. The ACT for Adolescents, Trauma-Focused ACT, ACT for Depression and Anxiety Disorders, ACT as a Brief Intervention, ACT for Perfectionism and People Pleasing, ACT for Grief and Loss and ACT for ADHD courses are more advanced and suitable for practitioners who have already completed an introductory course, such as ACT for Beginners or a two day ACT workshop with a recognised ACT trainer. Please be aware that these advanced workshops include descriptions, videotapes, audiotapes, and/or reenactments of actual therapy sessions. Some of the case material may contain graphic descriptions of violence, sexual activity or other content which could be disturbing, especially for participants with similar experiences. The courses are intended for health professionals and advanced students, who participate at their own risk. If you find portions of the program upsetting, or if you need assistance for any other reason, please notify one of the trainers.

Do I need to be online at specific times?

The great news is you don’t have to be online at specific times. The course content will be released weekly and can be accessed any time that’s convenient for you. However, we encourage you to schedule a specific time in the week to dive into course work.

How and when can I access the course?

We know you’d love to dive in immediately, but the course will be available on the launch date. On the day the course begins you’ll receive an email detailing how to access the course - keep an eye on your inbox.

What happens if I miss a week or fall behind?

How will the online forum work?

Course participants will post their questions and then Russ and the ACT Trainers will respond in due course. Other course participants may also post replies. Please note that Russ and the ACT Trainers will only be active in the forum for 10 weeks from the course launch date. Once the forum is no longer live, you will still be able to view previous posts on the forum but you will not be able to post any further questions during the grace period.

How do the online courses differ from the workshops?

The online courses are equivalent to multi-day live workshops. Essentially, the content for both the online courses and the workshops are the same. However with our six week online courses, there’s more opportunity to dive into the content, take advantage of the bonus material and ask questions for Russ Harris and the trainers in our interactive forum.

Can I get a course extension?

Due to the structure and build of the course, we’re unable to grant extensions. If you’re facing serious difficulties outside your control, contact our customer service team. Our team can discuss with you the possibility of deferring to a future course. If your deferral request is approved, your enrollment will be transferred from the current intake to the intake you wish to join, subject to our deferral terms. International trainees are welcome as all the content is available on line. In addition, there’s no specific time during the week you’re required to be online, nor any travel requirements. Just note that our courses are only offered in English.

If you are unsatisfied or unable to complete the course, we offer a full refund, providing you let us know within seven days of the course beginning. After this time, if you are unsatisfied, please contact the customer service team and we’ll work with you directly to resolve your issue. If you are facing serious difficulties outside your control, please contact our customer service team. Although we can’t give you a refund after seven days, we can discuss with you the possibility of deferring to a future course date. If Psychwire Australia PTY LTD has to delay the start date of a course, all registrants will be notified by email and you will be given an opportunity to request a refund. What certificate will I receive?

Each participant who’s completed the course in full will be awarded a Certificate of Completion. If you’ve completed at least 75% of the course, you’ll be given a Letter of Participation. These documents will be emailed as a PDF a few weeks after the course ends and will be available on ‘I’m Learning ACT’ documentation. These certificates will include the course name, your name, the date, weeks and hours of the course. If you meet all the requirements for CE/CME credits, you’ll also receive a CE/CME Certificate after the course finishes.

Is the course approved for CPD in Australia?

In Australia, each ACT online course is worth at least 1 - 3 CPD (Continuing Professional Development) hours per week with the Australian Psychological Society. AHPRA is the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and governs multiple occupations including psychologists, doctors and nurses. These professions are required in Australia to complete a certain amount of CPD hours annually. How they claim the CPD hours varies by profession and is not a process that either we are involved in. The different governing bodies underneath the AHPRA umbrella have their own specific set of guidelines to be followed by their members. Is there certification required for ACT?

At this time, there’s no ACT certification process. Therapists can train in ACT and continue to learn more through workshops, online courses, books, networking, joining ACT organisations etc. You can also be listed as ‘ACT Trained’ on therapist databases. What is CE/CME Credit?

The United States of America and Canada require health professionals to accrue CE/CME (Continuing Education) credits in order to maintain their licenses or registrations. These credits are gained through approved educational activities which serve to develop professional knowledge and performance. CE/CME Credit certificates are submitted to licensing guilds within the U.S.A. and Canada.

Quiz Questions and Score Calculation

An overall quiz score of 80% or higher is required in order to receive CE/CME credits. Where are the quiz questions located? Quiz questions are located at the end of each week of the course. What is the format of the questions? Most questions are multiple choice, some are true/false. How many questions are there? Between 64 and 160 quiz questions, depending upon the course. Do all of the questions count toward my score? Yes. All quiz questions are counted toward your score. What happens if I answer a multiple-choice question incorrectly? If you miss a multiple choice question, you will immediately have two more opportunities to answer the question correctly. If you answer correctly on your second or third attempt, you will receive credit for the question. If you answer incorrectly on your third attempt, you will not receive credit for the question. What happens if I answer a true/false question incorrectly? The question will be marked as incorrect and you will not have an opportunity to try again. Can I take a make-up exam if I don't pass? Unfortunately, no. We do not allow make-up exams. If you miss a multiple choice question on the first attempt, you will need to answer correctly on the second or third attempt in order to receive credit. How is my final score calculated? The number of correct/credited answers will be divided by the total number of quiz questions, and the result will be your final score. Example: A course has 160 questions. You answered 15 of them incorrectly, which leaves 145 that you can receive credit for. Divide 145 by 160 and the result is 91%. Therefore, your overall quiz score is 91%.

All our ACT courses are offered online, therefore you’ll need: A computer - our online courses aren’t officially supported on mobile devices. Speakers or headphones - you’ll need a way to listen to content, either with built in speakers or headphones/speakers plugged into your computer. Internet - wired or wireless, but it needs to be DSL or better. PDF viewer such as ADOBE - this can downloaded if needed. Optional: a printer if you’d like to print any of the library content. Our courses are supported on the most recent versions of Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge and Internet Explorer 11. All written content, including PDFs and some audio content, are available for download. Please note that video content is only accessible during your course.

I’m having trouble opening or printing my certificate(s)

Certificates will be emailed after course is finished. Any computer with a PDF viewer, such as Adobe Reader or Apple Preview, will be able to open the PDF attachment. If you can’t open the document directly, save it to your desktop and open it from there.
